Bidborough Pavilion Fund

Bidborough Pavilion Fund

There will be a focus on fundraising over the coming season as we aim to play our part in raising the money needed to refurbish our pavilion. We will be working in partnership with the Parish Council and the Bidborough Sports Association to upgrade this hub of the local sporting community to provide better facilities for all.

The Parish Council and the Bidborough Sports Association are promoting the plans which have received planning permission and detailed building tender specifications are currently out to various construction firms such that we receive an appropriate number of valid tenders. Essentially the new building will stay in the same location but by utilising the spare ground to the left of the building as viewed from the church and by making use of the wasted space to the rear, it is possible to increase the floor area by over 70% and thus provide the following facilities:

  • Two new changing rooms that meet minimum space requirements of the English Cricket  Board and incorporate shower facilities within the room. This will make the facilities suitable for men, ladies and juniors and help with child protection issues.
  • A toilet block that comprises gents, ladies and a designated disabled toilet as well as a particular toilet for the Bowls Club in their changing room.
  • A new kitchen that runs along the side of the main frame and will provide hatch access to the veranda area.
  • Much increased floor space that will provide room for entertaining teams and potentially  provide space for fitness classes, meetings and possibly children’s parties
  • Underfloor heating that will extend the use of the building for more of the year.
Invitation to Rise to the 2017 Challenge

Invitation to Rise to the 2017 Challenge

The Challenge of 2017

The coming year will be a busy year in the cricketing calendar – a Champions Trophy and a Women’s World Cup for a start. Closer to home there are leagues to be won and at a personal level, batting and bowling targets to be achieved.

However, despite all that, the biggest challenge for Bidborough in 2017 is to raise funds for our new pavilion.

We will need to work closely with our colleagues in our fellow sporting clubs through the Bidborough Sports Association and indeed with the entire village community, through the support of the Parish Council, to come up with the right sums of money such that we can enable the new pavilion to start construction in autumn 2017.

It will be a lot easier if everybody, and we do mean everybody, does their bit. A mixture of money, ideas and time will get us there so you will be able to contribute to at least one of these and hopefully all three. You will all know individuals or companies who can assist with money or prizes for raffle or auction so please do not be afraid to spread the word.

The fundraising committee will outline their plans at the start of the season and we will have a running total going throughout the season to show progress. Every home game gives us the chance to add a few more pounds to our efforts and together will take us ever closer to our final target.

The ultimate prize is enormous – a brand new pavilion with space to have a proper seat in the changing room and the chance to have tea in roomier surroundings – so please be ready to fully contribute however you can throughout the whole season. A new building up and ready for the 2018 season will be a fitting way to mark our 125th anniversary!

A big challenge yes, but working together will mean that we can rise to that challenge.

August Bank Holiday Cricket Fiesta

August Bank Holiday Cricket Fiesta

A weekend fiesta of cricket with all three teams winning their league matches on Saturday. Followed by a very successful Big Bash Interclub six-a-side on Sunday and finally, the weekend was complete with BCC being crowned champions of The Groombridge 6’s on bank holiday Monday.

The Interclub six-a-side was filled with plenty of entertainment both on and off the pitch. The Super Mario’s took dressing up for cricket to another level, the South Africans tactically recruited the pony ‘Daisy’ as as a distraction, supercharged Dylan Hillhouse could be compared to the “bolt” between the wickets, Elliot Heim behind the mic was not a good idea and team Howard arrived on mass with as many friends and family to fill the top bank and intimidate the opposition. Well done to team Baldock who seemed unphased by all the goings on finally triumphing overall.

Well done to our BCC Six A side team on winning the Groombridge 6’s on the bank holiday Monday. They say the ‘cream always rises to the top’, so yes, Bidborough should have ‘probably’ won and were ‘probably’ the best team on the day.

The BIG Bash Interclub Six-a-Side Tournament

Sunday 28th August, is the BIG Bash Interclub Six-a-Side Tournament. After last years huge success of the ‘Bidborough Big Bash’ we will be running this again. For those of you not in the know, it’s an interclub six-a-side tournament. We look to involve seniors and colts. However due to the fast pace and nature of the game we recommend that its only suitable for Under 15’s out of the colts setup.

Organising the day takes some time and work, so we would be grateful if you are interested in playing to please let Chris Wallington know ASAP (click here to email Chris).

There will also be a cash Bar and BBQ running all day with music and other entertainment.

Summer Bash, 6th August

Saturday 6th August we will be having a social down the club after the games. As most of you know we are currently trying to raise money for the new pavilion. Our summer bash is a fundraising event for the club to go towards building brand new facilities. So please all support this worthy cause.

There will be a Bar (cash only), a BBQ, a Beer Pong Tournament and Volleyball. There will also be music throughout the evening.

Time: proceedings will commence after the Saturday fixture at around 7pm.

Theme: FANCY DRESS  – As our ground has become affectionately known as the ‘ANG’ (Arthur Nicholson Rec) there will be a fancy dress theme for the evening. Come as something beginning with either A, N or G!

There will be a prize for the best costume.

This is a great opportunity for everyone to get together for a catch up. So it is an open invite to everyone, doesn’t matter if you are playing that day or not, if you are 16 or 60, parent of a colt, or a friend of the club. So please spread the word and invite friends.

ALL WELCOME.
