With club Captain Larkin still on call it was down to Balders to don the captains armband and try to win an important toss. With a green top and plenty of moisture in the pitch the queens head staring up off muddy’s 50p spelt 40 overs first up in the field for the Bidborough boys. 2012 saw the first of what is hoped to be the annual U13 ‘six a side’ tournament. The concept of the HomeGuard cup ‘six a side’ competition was conceived by a few enthusiastic members of Bidborough & Speldhurst Cricket Clubs frustrated at the limited number of cricket matches offered to youngsters particularly given the rain which blighted the beginning of the 2012 season. The heavy rain on at Bidborough Saturday afternoon, not only caused the cancellation of the senior 1st & 2nd team fixtures but the downpour meant that the Bidborough Rec was still unfit for play on Sunday morning despite the early morning sunshine. This unfortunately meant the Under 16 A team fixture had to be cancelled. (more…)

First game of the season saw an excellent all-round team performance which resulted in a comfortable win for Bidborough. Holmesdale won the toss and decided to bat first, but were regretting that decision when Myles Lindley and Ben Morley took four early wickets to peg the away side back.
