2 Jumper weather!!

On a cold and Blustery day at the Rec Bidborough continued their pursuit of the Div one title with a comprehensive win again St Lawrence. Despite a rainy start to the day a dry pitch greeted the two captains at the toss. When the coin fell in the favour of Bidborough Balders had no hesitation in making first use of a decent looking deck. Harding and Howes opened and made steady progress taking 45 off for the fist ten overs without too much alarm. The scoring accelerated with a further 50 coming off the next 8 overs. It was at this point that Thompson took St Lawrence’s only wicket of the afternoon when Sambo top edged a pull to loop a catch to Evans behind the sticks. Sam had again managed to score 49 which is seriously starting to look like jug avoidance!! This brought Jack Redden to the crease and he and Charlie batted beautifully to take Bidborough to a commanding 262 – 1 from their 40 overs. Charlie batted through the innings for the third time this season and finished with a superb 142 not out! Jack gave admirable support scoring a very attractive 54 not out.

Following a fabulous tea from Liz Harding (sorry Chaz but you can’t take the credit!!) the order of the day was to bowl a tight line and take our chances. Fortunately the team where listening to the skipper and the opening attack of Heim and Wells quickly saw St Lawrence collapse to 54 – 6 after 13 overs. Heim finished with 2-31 and Archie a first XI best of 4-21. Brilliant to see two youngsters doing so well at the top of the innings. The old guard of Mitchell and Redden then took over to take the remaining wickets – Mitch 2-10 and Rigger 1-1! All catches were held and St Lawrence ended 66 all out.

After the disappointment of losing in the National Knockout on Sunday today’s result was a pleasing reaction and we now move onto Outwood next week with a spring in our step and the goal of staying at the top of the league!
